Kingz sign another Greek!
The South Melbourne influence at the Football Kingz soccer club gets stronger as the new season draws closer. Striker Vas Kalogeracos on Wednesday joined the list of South Melbourne players to follow coach Mike Petersen across the Tasman. Kalogeracos, 26, joins former South Melbourne players Con Boutsianis and Andy Vlahos at the Auckland-based club. A veteran of about 130 National Soccer League games, Kalogeracos made his league debut in 1992. He has since played at Perth Glory and English clubs Birmingham City and Stockport County. Kalogeracos last season joined Vlahos and All Whites striker Vaughan Coveny in a strong attacking trio at South Melbourne, with the speedy Kalogeracos often playing a wide attacking role. Like Boutsianis, Kalogeracos was off contract with his Australian club and joined the Kingz as a free agent. It is understood the Kingz paid South Melbourne a $NZ62,205 transfer fee for Vlahos. Petersen will be joined at the Kingz by his South Melbourne trainer Darren Welch and team manager Andy Theoklitos, who replaces Albert Murphy, who was unavailable to manage the side this year.
