Central League: Miramar 1, Olympic 1

Miramar 1, Olympic 1

Played on Saturday 6th May at Centennial Park

This game is always regarded as a hard local derby for both teams, and that was certainly true of Saturday's encounter. The pressure was on our players to lift there performance another notch and really gauge if we are genuine title contender in 2006, as we have not beaten Miramar at Centennial for many years.

The first half saw us give away a quick goal (within the first 4 minutes) due to some poor defending and inability to following our game plan. Allowing Tim Butterfield to head home the opening goal of the game from close range. This quick goal certainly put pressure on the players, and overall it was disappointing that we let ourselves down in the first half by giving Miramar plenty of time on the ball.

The second half started as the first however after 15 minutes Olympic started to apply more pressure due to a formation change, more chances were created particularly by our midfield. The equaliser came midway through the second half from a Jared Curtis cross that Mickey Malivuk scored via a fine header. This goal lifted the team's performance even further and it was Olympic AFC who was dominant for the remainder of the match until the full time whistle blew.

The after match speech by Miramar was certainly an interesting one. Tim Butterfield's comments will be long remembered by all those at the Miramar clubrooms both for the inaccurate information and comments concerning Olympic AFC. I am sure even some Miramar supporters were surprised at his viewpoint.

I am sure the Olympic team, management and supporters will remember his comments for our second round encounter, and will need little motivation as Olympic strives for the Central league title .
