Island Bay currently sits in third place in Capital Premier, only three points behind joint table leaders Stop Out and Waterside Karori. Island Bay have had a strong season so far, with five wins and three draws out of nine games. However they were facing Wellington Olympic, who are first in Central League with seven wins out of nine games. Despite their top form this season, Olympic have had a shaky couple of weeks, losing to Wairarapa United two weeks ago, and drawing with Miramar last week conceding all three goals in the second half. Add to the mix a longstanding traditional rival between “the Italians” and “the Greeks”, this was picked to be a passionate encounter, and the 300-strong crowd were not disappointed.
