Ryan Edwards, the former Tauranga City United midfielder moved to Wellington in 2007 and signed for Victoria University. Ryan had a suburb season at the Capital One club where his performances didn’t go unnoticed.
In 2008 Ryan made the decision to move to a club which played in the top division and the 2009 ASB Chatham Cup winner has never looked back as he joined the blue of Wellington Olympic AFC.
On the 20th of April 2008, Ryan made his first team debut in a bitter 5-2 defeat to rivals Miramar Rangers AFC at David Farrington Park.
Since his debut, Ryan has become a key member of the club’s first team. He first joined the club as a midfielder but in 2009 Simon George and Craig Hopkins turned him into a Chatham Cup winning centre back.
At only 25 years of age, Ryan is considered one of the most experienced players of the clubs first team, and he was very influential in both the 2009 ASB Chatham Cup and 2010 Lotto Men’s Central League winning sides.
The club are very pleased to have Ryan Edwards re-sign for the season ahead and hope his seven years’ experience in the first team can help guide the club to further success.
Asher O’Brien has also committed his future to the club and has re-signed for season 2015.
Asher joined Olympic ahead of the 2013 season from fierce rivals Miramar Rangers AFC. Since joining the blue of Olympic, he has come a long way and developed into a very fine defensive player.
Asher made his first team debut during season 2013, and since his move to Olympic he has become a key squad player at the club as he has featured heavily for both the Capital Premier side (clubs reserve team) and the Lotto Men’s Central League side.
In 2014, he made 10 appearances across all competitions for the first team and made an impact in the second half of the season; Asher also featured in a few games in the heart of defence as a centre back – he is capable at playing in both these two defensive positions very well.
We are delighted to have the young defensive rock re-sign for season 2015.
