Miramar Rangers were the first to falter when going down 3-2 at home to Palmerston North Marist.
They took an early lead with a goal from Tom Probert, but midway through the first half Marist drew level following a defensive lapse from Miramar.
Goals to Josh Chettleburgh and Rhys Galyer would help seal the win.
Wairarapa United travelled to Hutt Park to take on Stop Out, but went back over the hill with nothing to show for their trip.
It was a close encounter, but a goal from Micky Malivuk 14 minutes into the first half saw Stop Out take the lead.
Wairarapa rallied and managed to level the scores going into half time, with a clinical finish from the edge of the box by Sam Mason-Smith.
Stop Out continued to dominate in the second half and it was debutant Michael McCutcheon who showed great agility to turn and shoot and earn his side a 2-1 win.
