WELLINGTON OLYMPIC AFC

Coach:  Maki Halikias

Coach:  Jimmy Haidakis

WELLINGTON OLYMPIC U7s & U8s

This season, Wellington Olympic has one U7 team (Titans) with 8 players (and growing).  With 25 registered players in the U8s, Olympic has three U8 teams:   Apollon, Spartans and Hermes.

Under NZF Junior Football rules, these grades will have two weeks of in-house (this means Olympic players only in attendance) "training sessions", followed by 5v5 games team games between each other.

Coaches Maki Halikias and Jimmy Haidakis will be in control for each of these sessions, helping our players to learn and incorporate different football skills into their games.  Emphasis is put not only on the players getting a sound knowledge as to the foundations of football, but to instil in them good sportsmanship whilst having fun.

There are no goalkeepers or throw-ins at this level.  The intention of Fun Football is to get the players understanding their football environment, passing, moving forward and back with play, introducing some of the skills of football, learning to work together as a team, and, of course, to really enjoy the experience.

Every third Saturday, our four teams will be playing in the Football Festivals set up by Capital Football.  Our U7s team is an established team, however players in the U8 grade will be placed into teams.  Each of the teams will play against other Clubs with four games to be played consecutively.  No scores are kept in these age groups - again, the intention is for the young players to be introduced to football "street style" - using what they've been coached and, over time, mastering their football abilities.

Festival fixtures are usually held at Wakefield Park (U7s and U8s),  Miramar Park (U8s only) and Karori Park (U7s only).  Festival Day fixtures will be advised to all parents by email during the week leading up to the Festival.  You can also check for fixtures or cancellations on our Fixtures page on this website.  Capital Football updates the fixtures the week of Festival Day Saturdays.

All players are expected to wear their Olympic strip, shin pads (protective gear) and football boots).

SESSIONS:

There are two training sessions per week held on Saturdays and every Sunday.  The U7s and U8s play in Festival Days every third Saturday, so two consecutive Saturdays will be "in-house" sessions, with the third week being games played against other Clubs.

FESTIVAL DAY - 13TH MAY - WAKEFIELD PARK

With four teams and 30 odd Olympic players, Wakefield Park was busy for the first of the Festival Days of the 2023 season...

We thank all parents, families and friends that came and supported all the children for a fantastic day of football!  Thanks to the Dads (and 1st team Captain, Ben Mata) who stepped up to take on a team each....
