JUNIORS AND YOUTH

INFORMATION

(u4-u13)

Wellington Olympic's Juniors play a major part in the Club and its future, with a pathway to progress to our Youth and Senior grades, in both competitive or social divisions.

Head Coach and Junior Development Officer, Samuel Mitrakas, is a licenced Coach and will also oversee our 7-13 year old grades.

Our Junior Administrator, Anna-Maria Fradelakis, will assist Samuel and will also oversee the youngest of our juniors, the 4-6 years olds.

Nursery Grade (u4-u6)

Coach Luis Corrales is back this season to introduce our youngest stars to the world of football in a fun and safe environment.  Trainings are held on Sundays at the Indian Centre in Kilbirnie.

And whilst the emphasis is on the children having fun, Luis will be working on getting them used to having the ball at their feet whilst introducing simple skills which the children practice.  As they master each skill,  the children are encouraged to use these in short, fun games, each time building on their foundation of what they've learnt.

Fun Football (u7 and u8) - 5 vs 5    4 x 10 minute games

This season, our u7 and u8 grade teams will be joining Island Bay on Saturday mornings at Wakefield Park, for their weekly inhouse skill and games as per the NZF Junior Framework.  Teams are given skills to carry out at different stations before games commence.

Fun Football is an introduction to street-style and free-flowing football with no throw-ins or goalkeepers and played on a small field.  Every third week, Capital Football organise "Festival" games in which teams play other Clubs from Wellington.

Mini Football (u9 and u10) - 7 vs 7    2 x 25 minute games

These age groups introduce goalkeepers and a few more football rules.  Although the emphasis still revolves on the concept keeping the game, it is also brings with it the introduction of competitiveness to games.   Capital Football provide fixtures and games may be played at a number of venues around Wellington

Mini Football (u11 and u12) - 9 vs 9    1 x 60 minute game (option for 2 x 30 minute games)

All football rules are now implemented into their games. Skills introduced are now more advanced.

Youth (u13-15) -  11 vs 11   1 x 80 minute game

The players are now introduced to the full-sized field, with the full-sized goals.  Skills training continues as players become more confident and more competitive.

Those playing U17s are now fully emersed into the highly competitive arena of football and players are developed to progress to u19s and senior men's divisions.

2023 Season Dates:

Season starts 29th/30th April (u17s may start 22nd April) through to 2nd/3rd September.  There will be no games played in the middle weekend of the school holiday at the end of Term 2.

COACHES

Wellington Olympic's coaches have been great mentors for our Juniors as they are either current National League or Capital Premier players from our most senior teams, or players and members from our other Senior teams, all of whom have excellent coaching experience and have Coaching Licences or working towards these.

PLAYING UNIFORM

Wellington Olympic's playing strips are either all blue, or all black (depending on the grade/team).  The Club will provide all Junior players with tops and shorts, however player's socks, shin pads and football boots need to be supplied by the player.
