Fed Premier: Olympic 3, Upper Hutt 1

Playing Upper Hutt anytime is difficult it doesn't matter if they are in the top or bottom part of the Premier League. With this in mind Gary and I were expecting a difficult encounter. The team knew it was important that we continued our current good form into the Chatham Cup weekend. With Steve Romijn and Benn Dawson causing trouble down the left flank, creating a number of opportunities we put pressure on the Upper Hutt defence unfortunately we were unable to put the ball into the back of the net. The first half was not ideal but once again we produced a solid defensive display giving Upper Hutt limited opportunities, if any, at all. The second half produced a much better display with improved movement, passing and importantly an increasing number of shooting opportunities. The first goal came from Barry Lewis who surged from his defensive duties to show his undoubted ability going past two or three players before producing a marvellous effort to score off the underside of the bar. Unfortunately, we did not continue in this vain and it wasn't until Upper Hutt equalised via Kevin Stone. Did we increase the tempo further putting Upper Hutt's midfield and defence under increasing pressure which saw a red card shown for a second bookable offence against a combative Upper Hutt player. Basically, this allowed us additional space in the midfield to create two further goals to Russell Kamo (fifth in six games) and Benn Dawson. Overall a pleasing display in the second half if not the best the team has played this year. With five wins out of six games and still unbeaten both Gary and I would have taken that at the beginning of the season, and now we look forward to the Chatham Cup 1st round game against Stop-Out, before our final three games of the 1st round of the Champs Premier League. The team's focus must be keeping our unbeaten run going as long as possible and to do this we must step up and improve in areas of our game. We have the players to do this and I am sure we will continue to improve and prove the doubter wrong as the season continues.
