Central League Good Friday

Central League heavyweights Western Suburbs and Miramar Rangers are predictably sitting pretty at the top of the table after second round scoring sprees. Wests were completely dominant in a 7-0 rout of Palmerston North Marist yesterday, Ben Feld and Jake Theron both scoring braces. Michael Smith, Dave Johnston and Chilean import Felipe Tabali also got their names on a lengthy scoresheet. Wests and Miramar are the only teams to win both their games, Wests leading on goal difference, having scored 10 goals for and are yet to concede. Defending champions Rangers were made to work harder for their three points against ambitious league newcomers Wairarapa United, prevailing 5-3 in an action packed contest. Veteran striker Bryan Little and Dominic Rowe both bagged doubles, while Wairarapa's Fijian striker Pita Rabo responded with two of his own as fourth-placed United, promoted this season, again suggested they will be a handful at the higher level. Keiichi Nguyen (Miramar) and Seule Soromon (Wairarapa) were the other goalscorers. Third-placed Petone had to settle for a goalless draw against Olympic, while Taranaki and Napier City Rovers also finished 0-0. Lower Hutt City are now fifth after a 2-0 victory against last-placed Wellington United thanks to strikes from Sam Blackburn and Pedro Garcias. Click here to view pics
