North Wellington 2 Wellington Olympic 5

On a rainy day in Johnsonville, Olympic were hosted by North Wellington. North Wellington were celebrating their 500th appearence in the Capital Football league. Olympic presented them with a pendant flag and badge before the game.

Straight from kick off, Olympic made their intentions known with slick one touch passing game. Si George controlling the midfield, opening up spaces for Gbender to knock through ball to the wingers and strikers. 15 minutes in and Olympic got their first goal, with some quick passing around the box, George played in Miguel who knocked the ball through to Christie to side foot past the keeper. 10 minutes later and it was 2-0, again some great one touch passing allowing Gbender to take the ball past the defender, and with a very tight angle, blasted the ball inside the keepers post up high into the net. 2-0 became 3-0, when after the ball bounced around the area, Christie hit a shot from the edge of the box into the corner of the net. One minute before the break ,North Wellington pulled a goal back from a quick move to put their striker one on one with Bobby, who calmly slotted it home.

Into the second half and Olympic made a few changes, bringing on a coupleof subs in Midfield. 10 minutes in it was 4-1 after Miguel out wide, played the ball into Gbender who hit a cracking shot up over the keeper. North Wellington didnt give up and pulled another back after some good play down the left, allowed the winger to cross low, and the striker to beat PK to the ball and score. For the next 25 minutes it was pretty even, with Conrado, Julio, Nates and Mitrakis making some important challenges. The game was over with 5 to go with Olympic scoring their 5th goal. Block flicked on from a long Bobby kick, allowing Nicko to run onto the ball, and blast over the keeper from the edge of the box.  A great way to start the season.

Man of the Match  - Simon George.
